STORM SHELTERS

Currently, there are no official storm shelters for the City of Dyersburg.  We are working with FEMA and other partners in hopes of developing ”certified” storm shelters.

There are occasions when a designated shelter may be opened in advance of severe weather.  It should be noted that although the shelter is not a “certified or rated storm shelter”, it would be a more suitable shelter versus mobile homes or homes that are of poor construction. When these shelters are opened, an advance notice of at least 6 hours will be provided to the community through the local newspaper and their website, and  local radio stations.
NEVER ASSUME THAT A SHELTER IS OPEN WHEN A WARNING IS ISSUED.

PERSONAL STORM SHELTERS

If you have your own certified storm shelter you should register it with the Dyersburg Fire Department.  This will ensure that the Dyersburg Fire Department will have your shelter GPS coordinates in a data base, which will enable responders to locate the shelter and ensure that you are not trapped inside, after a tornado strike. Call Dyersburg Fire Department at (731) 288-7614 for additional information.

OTHER SHELTERS

The Dyer County Emergency Management Agency coordinates disaster shelters with the American Red Cross.  There are numerous locations in Dyersburg and Dyer County that have been pre-identified as a disaster shelter.

Information will be disseminated about the location of these shelters, through local media, as needed.
