How to Stay Informed

How can I stay informed about emergencies in the City of Dyersburg?

There are numerous sources available to the public, many which are free.

WEATHER RADIOS - every home and business should have a weather radio. We recommend the type that has “SAME” (specific area message encoding) technology, which allows you to program the specific counties you want to monitor.

SMART PHONE APPS & EMAIL ALERTS
There are countless smart phone apps and web applications that provide both free and cost associated services.

Search your smart phone app provider, and/or the web for the following key words:

emergency alerts, weather alerts, national alerts.

Mobile Alert   COMMERCIAL MOBILE SYSTEM (CMAS) AND WIRELESS EMERGENCY ALERTS (WEA)
The Commercial Mobile Alert System (CMAS), also known as the Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA), allows public safety authorities and the National Weather Service to send geographically targeted, text-like Wireless Emergency Alerts to the public. WEAs will relay Presidential, AMBER, and Imminent Threat alerts to mobile phones using cell broadcast technology.  CMAS/WEA is part of the National Emergency Alert System (EAS) which sends warnings to television and radio via broadcast, cable, satellite, and wireline communications pathways.

Note:  The service is free and you are not required to register.  You will receive the alerts automatically. You must have a cell phone that is WEA capable.  Eventually, all cell phones will be WEA capable.  For more information, contact your wireless carrier.
