Emergency
Warning The City of Dyersburg has 9 emergency warning sirens that are used to alert the community of local emergencies. These sirens are placed at strategic locations throughout the city to ensure that everyone who is outside of a building or structure can hear the alerts. The sirens are not designed to alert persons inside buildings or homes.
The City encourages our community to have programmable weather radios that will provide emergency alerts inside buildings or structures.
A wail tone (wavering) is used to alert residents of a national, state, or local emergency. When you hear the wavering tone, tune to a local television or radio news station.
A steady alert tone is used for a tornado warning. When a tornado warning has been issued for any part of Dyer County, the sirens will blow a steady alert tone for approximately 4 minutes. If the tornado is tracking toward Dyersburg, then the sirens will continue to blow until the storm cell has passed or is no longer a threat. There is no all clear signal. When you hear the tornado alert seek shelter and tune to your local Memphis TV stations and local radio stations; be prepared to implement your tornado safety plan and to take cover. Visit fema.gov to learn how to develop a tornado safety plan for your home or business.
Do not call 911 or 311 when you hear the sirens blow, as this ties up valuable resources.
