The codes and prevention
bureau has many roles in the department.
Consisting
of two Certified Fire Inspectors and one Certified Inspector/
Supervisor whos roles include the enforcement of fire
codes of all commercial and industrial properties and multi-family
dwellings in the city. The Inspectors are to assist business
owners and others charged with fire safety procedures and
programs and the abatement of life/fire safety hazards. Recommendations
for any corrections needed will be made using NFPA life safety
and uniform fire codes.
Pre-planning is an important
part of everyday activities as the safety of the public and
fire personnel is a constant goal of the prevention bureau.
Inspectors along with the training officer will build data
bases with photos along with mapping on each commercial and
industrial building for our fire personnel to review during
training time.
The Inspectors coordinate
fire prevention activities, including public fire safety education,
fire station tours, fire safety school programs, civic groups,
and recognition of National Fire Protection Week. All citizens
are encouraged to take part in prevention of unwanted fires
and life safety hazards. To report any life safety or fire

Assemblies and commercial
occupancies that serve alcoholic beverages will be inspected
as part of the permit process as well as an annual building
inspection. Occupancy loads are figured using the NFPA minimal
standards. Each assembly will receive a copy of the occupancy
count which shall be posted in plain view to the public.
HOME FIRE SAFETY INSPECTIONS
are offered free to citizens. This inspection will assist
the public in life safety education. How to prevent unwanted
fires, the nature of fire behavior, EXIT drills in the home,
and egress from the home. To arrange an inspection please

Burn permits may be obtained at Fire Station #1 216 S. Church
St. The Officer on duty will monitor the conditions for approval.
