Accreditation
The Dyersburg Public Safety Communications Center dispatches for the Dyersburg Police Department, which is an internationally accredited law enforcement agency by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies.
The
911 Communications Center is required to meet standards which are divided
into three sections: administration, operations, and facility and equipment.
Specific standards also require that the agency's communications be conducted
in compliance with the Federal Communication (FCC) requirements. The
components of an accreditation program include professionals, who act with discretion,
in the public trust, to standards set by experts in the field. An independent
process is designed to implement the standards, verify compliance and award recognition.
With the communications accreditation program, telecommunicators with special
knowledge and experience established voluntary standards before other, often less
qualified groups, seek to do so. Accreditation
is a coveted award that symbolizes professionalism, excellence, and competence.
Accredited agencies can take pride in their department, knowing it represents
the very best. Besides
the recognition of obtaining international excellence, the primary benefits of
accreditation include controlled liability insurance costs, administrative improvements,
greater accountability from supervisors, increased governmental and community
support.
