Drinking Regulations

Primary Drinking Regulations are regulations that cover contaminates that have an adverse effect on human health. These include;

Inorganic - arsenic, barium, selenium & fluoride which are naturally found in water. Chromium, mercury, silver, & nitrate are usually due to manmade contamination. Lead & Cadium are usually found in piping materials in the distributions system and in household plumbing.

Organics - various herbicides and insecticides as well as trihalomethanes. THM's are formed when chlorine reacts with natural organic compounds found in decaying vegetation.

Turbidity - these particles can be either organic material such as leaf mold & animal waste or inorganic materials such as sand and clay.

Microbiological Contaminants - we run a Total Coliform bacteria test.

Secondary Drinking Regulations are regulations that cover contaminates that adversely affect the aesthetic quality of water - such as taste, odor, & appearance. They do not normally affect our health.
